Ice Warrior

She is heading for the east, on instinct with a few memorized prayers in mind and a bittersweet lullaby. Soft lips linger on her hands, where blood is written over.

The vociferous susurration of the wind against her hair, against her ears drummed down into her – a poisonous feeling of not knowing where she is and knowing she should be recoiling with guilt.

But she still stomps over the ruins, over the ash, as she blanches and wills herself she isn’t going to faint. Her pulse rhymes with the wind, and the hush of the drag of her sword impales down on her like the world to Atlas. Yet it also encourages her to be who she is – a warrior of all things. Mayhaps the only female one at the time. It’s a horrendous thought but she will have to fight with it clouded in front of her eyes.

She lives vicariously through the gods.

The cold is like acid sinking into her bones. She looks for litanies to spew, but none come. She can feel the Winter, the Ice Spirit, pass through the trees; the spirit used to be accompanied by tasty rumors – the wildest one drawing the lads closer. Winter is a woman, they say – a mortal once, a writer had quipped. It began as a fantasy, but more and more people of all ages started to ride by and share what they had witnessed.

She is beautiful, they said. She is to be feared, some said.

The female warrior’s name is unknown. But she is known to strangers as Li – the dark, dauntless girl who is very acquainted with the evening stars. The willowy female warrior to be banished at the age of seventeen.

Li’s spine is caked with shivers and they run through her in a queue.

Winter’s breath is deadly, minty, lovely. She dances poignantly.

Li has her sword poised over her shoulder.

Winter washes over her and encompasses her in rest. But she doesn’t rest, she trudges.

Cigarettes and Dragons

Clouds loomed and roofed their houses. Threatening and versatile, they flittered back and forth before settling for the previously twilit world of rocky streets and silent chatter. They promptly jumped into the scene of old kingdoms and scary dragons – flippant, daffy lads running helter-skelter, prepared to stick their tongues out for the pouring rain. They were spindly kids with toothy smiles and lisps. Their room lights flickered. They whispered conspiratorially. They drawled with exuberance, inspiring hullabaloo. They were the kings and queens with sly faces and party hats.

But there was this person who was – almost – inexpicably sad, but not ostensibly so. He breathed fire, but he wasn’t a dragon. He didn’t want to be slain, so he remained inside. This human had uncanny eyes that searched the night and peered out benignly at the world of kings and queens. Outside, the magic struck like lightning. Inside, it was jejune, similar to the eeriness of black-and-white films. Inside there was the cryptic, playing with puzzle pieces and keeping his wings huddled closed to his outline. There was warmth – it sizzled, especially when the hellish summer came. But there was also cold – that was when he needed to breathe more, live, and shiver out his own hearth unwillingly.

The rain was adamant. Drops fell down and the days seemed to go by swiftly. Cars rarely drove their way in the streets and coffee shops either had plenty of people milling about or none. It poured while the men worked and the women watched their children sing their songs heartily. It poured while cigarettes were lit and screen doors were fixed.

It was dull, and it matched the person’s atmosphere. But there was somewhat a brilliance in it – a spark igniting, a shadow searching, a glint in a little girl’s eyes. It was eerie and cold, but it was also new. The floorboards creaked as they lazed around, still, but the way people forgot about it was nice and gratifying in a way too inoffensive to understand.

The person’s face was ashen, stiff. His lips were painted blue and his forehead furrowed time to time. He was hiding, a wool blanket stretched across his wings, a discarded mug of cold hazelnut coffee in reach. The curtains were drawn, the windows tightly closed like they should have been. But he could still hear the pitter patter of the rain, the merrymaking of the people. His stomach churned as the shadows played with him, taunted him with silence as if to say are you cold?. But of course he was, apparently they were there just to bully him.

His eyes roved over the shaking sight of the walls around him as he bit down on his lower lip to refrain from cursing. He liked to recoil from the abandoned ghosts of the paintings and collages pinned onto the walls, but now he’d like to look. He raised a lithe, bony finger up to a family, traced their outline, and wished he knew them. They looked warm – the thought of it made him flinch, because he knew their story; their life and their death. He knew the history of these walls, he knew them although he wanted to obscure their voices. He had the power to, but he could not do it.

He gnawed until blood came from under the skin. He muffled his screams until he couldn’t anymore. He dove into insanity, dementia if you will. But he couldn’t die, mustn’t die, for the world will combust if so. And he willed himself to do it for the bubbly kids outside his share of the world, for the good man and his pregnant wife, for everyone who deserved it.

Kids. Reckless, joyful kids. Their innocence and freedom was beauteous and too sweet to be a piece of comical information. They gripped their swords and roared like lions. But they can be pliant and yielding, naïve to the evils of the otherworld. They knew of dragons, but they knew not of angels. Especially the ancient angel who worked like Atlas, carrying and holding and knowing. There will be a time he will break, and he must with finality, sealing his and your fate with a touch of secrecy.

Shhh.

Dementia

Hi.

This week I have been staying up all night (like I don’t do that regularly), leafing through Edith Hamilton’s MYTHOLOGY, fangirling more and more, and accomplishing (at least most of the time) the challenge of keeping my face stoic. Because I must be mysterious like that so I can fool people into believing I am a robot.

I’ve been focusing a lot on the beautiful (and unreal!) story of Pgymalion and Galatea – a woman-hater sculptor falling for his own work. Oh my, that sounds conceited of the guy, Pgymalion, but no. I think he’s just very desperate and all that. He goes crazy for his masterpiece and Venus understands and grants the gorgeous sculpture life, thus showering Pygmalion with happiness. Then later he names his wife Galatea and they have a kid.

My heart. (And my head which won’t stop bugging me with prompts. Shhh, head, go away.)

There’s another story I’ve read, and it apparently resembles Romeo and Juliet so much. The tale of Pyramus and Thisbe makes me want to weep. Then there’s the story of the musician Orpheus and his lover Eurydice, and I go bawling (internally, of course – I keep my cool). These two stories are so freaking tragic that I want to rip my head off. Alas there are happier stories which keep me from dissecting myself. Weeee.

And, um, the reason for my recent fangirling frenzy is because Adam Young collaborated with one Mark Hoppus and the outstanding outcome of their collision is right here:

I wanted to cry in the dark right after I heard its intro. It’s the epitome of perfection, I TELL YA. NOW LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE I AM USING CAPS LOCK TO ENTICE YOU. DON’T JUST STARE AT THE SCREEN. FRENCH THE LLAMA (ooh, a Nerdfighter reference). YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO LISTEN.

Bleh. I'll leave you with a smile (the not-stoic me) because I hope you're smiling, too.

I'll be tarrying around.

Nomads in a House

Hi!

Urgh. So it's summer and the place is boiling like the pits of hell and the ones of an old guy. My brother and I are left in the house during weekdays when our parents are working and we move from one room to another. We're kind of nomadic in this house and our days are filled to the brim with boredom and fun (yet with excessive boredom) – two improbable things entwined together. My brother is still the freak he is and shows to be; no changes there. (If said brother reads that sentence in the future, I will not apologize for it is, and maybe still will be, the darn truth.)

I’ve read a couple of books and this apparently includes John Green. Last March 31st, I evolved into a Nerdfighter (and I think I am not so punctual, oops) and I can finally thrust this upon you, my reader: DFTBA. These days, I usually wake up around nine or ten, but once I rose from the dead at approximately twelve in the afternoon; this sucks because I like mornings when classes aren’t there to intersect, although sleeping is also magical. My hair is suffering and I’m letting it, meh. I’m this hobo/hermit during summer and my mood swings are in the process of making me a psycho. If you see me walking around in the mall or anywhere else, remember to keep your distance or else I might stab you shyly with the hair of a hobo and the liveliness of a tree. DFTBA, DFTBA, sorry.

I am also trying to improve my vocabulary even more. I had mentioned reading and now I peruse Merriam-Webster (dictionary) like I haven’t before. I’ve been writing a lot, too! Fanfiction, that is. Someone made me a “favorite author” of theirs this week (it’s my second time to be somebody’s) and omg it feels UHmazing. I’ve been tweeting exponentially. My timeline is dead most of the time during the day so I flood frequently, tweeting to nobody in particular.

I sleep beside a wall where ants crawl. I’m actually alright with it as long as they don’t come flinging their bodies at me, unless those ants are attempting suicide. The pillows I lay my head on and cuddle with have their pillowcases lavished with Disney Princesses whose faces I smother with my hands and skull. I tend to listen to music hours before sleeping. I sleep around 12:30 in the morning; I have grown to be the night guard here. I force my brother to rewatch a few episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender with me, but we still watch Adventure Time.

Sorry, this isn't the wall. It's the ceiling.

I did see The Hunger Games. Twice. Jennifer Lawrence did an outstanding job portraying Katniss Everdeen. I applaud her and her ability to be flawless yet human. The cast was also wonderful, bringing the characters to life – they did. There were disappointments but I’d rather not point them out. NOW I’m eager to know who they’ll cast as my baby Finnick Odair. Please, not Pettyfer.

OH AND I AM ALSO going to share with you the ship I currently sail:

                    source

I hunted down the first two episodes of Legend of Korra online and I am already SHIPPING THEM SO LUMPING HARD due to my fangirl instincts with a certain spoiler which is like half a second long but WEEEEEEEE MY EMOTIONS OK.
And it just so happens that Korra is a riveting badass as the Avatar and Mako is ridiculously attractive with those eyebrows. Bless this ship. Bless your cow. But I have heart palpitations not only for the couple. I love Meelo and Bolin and Tenzin and KATARA and everyone else on the good side. Amon creeps me out with his Equalist buddies. I need to vent or I might just flip tables. Flip tables everywhere especially for older Aang.

Okay. DFTBA! Be the leaf!

Nightlight

Feb 11 2012, nearing midnight

I'm thinking a lot today. My mother is in the same room as I am. She is surfing as I type away while listening to Lights.

Some people are just these enigmas. Locked doors, closed and unrevealing. But somewhat beautiful. I have always wondered how it would be to unlock them, open them and peer inside. I wonder why they seemed so beautiful with their words, their actions, and sometimes even just their existence. They're really beautiful you know, eyes telling but not really so. Smile happy. I could wonder helplessly about their childhood - was it fun? Why do they look sad and joyous at the same time? Are they the angels we see in our dreams? In our climatic nightmares? I wonder how they are when they are alone, maybe thinking too much or staring intently at the ceiling of their... home? apartment? parents' house? I might sound like a stalker, but I feel the need to think of these questions, these details. I don't know them and that's the thing. They're just people but still. Something is there and why would they be so intricately gorgeous? Why do they strangely appear lithe while just SITTING there? It's stupidly incomprehensible. It irritates me because of the pull, the attraction i feel mingling with striking curiosity. Are they targets? The world's magnets? Is their head a blur of loud words or a deserted lot? Or both? Do they know they stand out? Captivate? Kill just by doing so? I'm angry. Is this actually giving me a time of anguish? Stupid. Am I the deer in the headlights? Craving the information of an otherworldly stranger? Am I falling into an obsession? A silly thing. Maybe it's painful and heartbreaking to see them cry. Maybe it shatters a heart, hammers it until it's crashing down to a pair of feet. Are they the twinkling stars up there tonight? Are they the insect in an amber or the amber around an insect? Are they trapped? Are they rare? They're still beautiful. They're still insanely enchanting. Do they fall into Witchcraft or God's Gift? I wonder what their heart looks like. Is there glass everywhere? Is it dark? Are there phantoms inside? Do their thoughts sound like an orchestra of violins and violas or a collision of a hundred trucks? How do they see life? The world? People? What do they think of war and peace and love? Do Pac-Man and his enemies travel in their veins?

Who are they?

Pent-up

I hate people. I hate how they’re lonely. I hate how they think too much. I hate how they dodge their feelings, their needs, their wants. I hate how they make things too complicated. I hate how they cry at the night, in the dark. I hate how they’re empty. I hate how they’re reckless. I hate their assumptions. I hate how they think. I hate how they analyze. I hate their stares. I hate their tongues, always moving to convey what they want to say. I hate how they’re so problematic. I hate their illnesses. I hate their thoughts. I hate how they socialize. I hate how they flirt. I hate how they look. I hate how they pretend to know. I hate how they know. I hate their willingness. I hate how they’re too happy. I hate how they’re uninterested. I hate their instincts. I hate that they’re strangers. I hate their selfishness. I hate how they’re villains. I hate their curiosity.

I love people. I love how they share. I love how they care when it seems like they don’t. I love how they’re beautiful. I love their ideas. I love their aspirations. I love their weird dreams. I love how they’re so rapt in something; a book, the sunset, somebody. I love their selflessness. I love how they’re shy. I love how dauntless they look when they feel like they’re vulnerable. I love their smiles. I love the sense they make. I love how mysterious they are. I love their theories. I love their laughter. I love how heart-achingly perfect they look when they cry. I love their secrets. I love how they’re heroes. I love how they’re complete. I love their silence. I love their progression. I love how they don’t care.

Choked by Scarf

Looking for Alaska by John Green SPOILERS (kind of).

As I walked into the other room, textbooks in my arms, I could finally relax. The silence was deafening; the bulb though made its own noise. And so I climbed onto the bed, but only after I picked up my copy of Looking for Alaska by John Green. I sat on my space, wrapping my pink scarf around my neck and wondering if it would attempt to choke me again as I sleep tonight.

Last night, I had reached the ending of the aforementioned novel. It surprised me, honestly; I admired the characters through Pudge’s eyes. Especially Pudge himself – the narrator. I still cannot unlatch my head from the beautiful piece of literature I had swallowed. I want to rant about it in real life, but I see myself not able to because people will not listen and my hands on the keyboard are already BFFs – so why not take over their friendship status?

I learned stuff:

  1. Life can be really complicated.

  1. Anyone and anything can suddenly go POOF anywhere and anytime. This can affect you in many degrees.

  1. Plenty of people do assign themselves to religion just because they just want to go to heaven.
I’ve known these numbers, but the book enunciated them upon me. Heavily.
Alaska was a big question mark for me, and I know she was this too in Pudge’s perspective. She was a character that struck me and stuck with me. Her death shocked me, and whatever her true reasons were behind it I would still be hit with the whole thing.
The disappearance of someone is tragic. It always is. Behind those MISSING posters/fliers are sad, wailing parents. The death of someone hurts even more; a missing person (with the possibility of still existing somewhere) can still send hope to relatives and friends, but a DEAD individual will kill YOU, the still existing one. Hope will be unreachable in your vision, and it only leaves you mourning and wishing.
A lot of people would want to live in heaven after their life on Earth ends. I would speak for Christianity. People will believe it just because they want to claim a spot in the afterlife they believe and want, and some will only join in the religion only because they desire THAT. Not because they believe in God. Their prayers and all are summed up into their hypocrisy now, I guess.

I learned another thing:

     4.  I love fictional characters.
I had already known this, but this made it even truer. It pains me to know that they are “fictional” all over and over again. These young, old people I read about and watch on TV give me hope and angst and sometimes more problems but I teach myself to handle it because I love them. This is apparently “obsessive” but not much people will probably read this blog post, so I shall label my situation in my own words: devoted. I could be labeled “uninteresting” publicly, but so far nobody truly knows/understands me but my loved friends in books and screens.

    To Frost, To Feel

Somewhere out there, there will always be that kind of girl who will love hazelnut coffee and the sight of flour. She will wake up staring at galaxies, whispering poetry before getting up to attend to her needs. She will use her owl bag and go outside, hunt for her coffee and more flour for baking. Her pale blond hair will be held back in a ponytail. Her neck hidden by her first ever scarf from her secret scarf collection. Her knees will have bruises, because she will have to stumble forward and trip downward a couple of times before walking straight. She will be afraid of the dark and of her dreams, but some of her dreams will show her the bright future she can and will meet. She will remember her dead mother's lullaby every night and will sing it to herself if she will ever need it to recover from her nightmares. She will grow tired and weary, but her love for baking will not. She will bake while listening to Love Shack or Fireflies. She will dance, twirl in her apron, and maybe sigh because she will appear so much messier than she thought she would be. But she will laugh it off, just because she will be like that. She will eat the outcome and drink her coffee, adjusting her blue scarf around her neck, planning to offer some of her cupcakes to the kind librarian. She will love the smell of books, live for it even. She will write, and write on everything she will. She will dance on her own, then later she will type about her favorite pieces of literature on the net. She will throw a few smiles at a few strangers. She will use her frosting to see her dreams, let them visit the outside world before they come tumbling back down inside her. She will wish for content, for the loneliness to stop. She will stop in front of a church and pray if she will remember how to. She will have earphones in her ears sometimes, thinking of parallel universes. She will hug the librarian and send her more cupcakes because she will be nicer. She will smile more maybe. She will travel the world, but not all of it. She will trace her fingers across maps, pack a few stuff, and head for light and dark. She will sip her coffee elsewhere, sketch her designs elsewhere, dream elsewhere. All those will happen until she will become even more exhausted. But this time someone will catch her, prevent her from falling too far. She will be protected, circled in warm arms, the arms of a stranger. She will see the stranger around until he will not be one anymore. She will have conflicts, but different are these. She will have dramatic episodes, but she will gain from them. She will gain the kind of maturity she didn't have before. She will have her eyes opened before her. She will see the stars above, kiss them before they flutter around her, and finally land her in a place where she and her lover will meet and never be lonely ever again.

    Ravage

Something under the ground snaps and you snap with it. The clouds play back and forth until they collapse, crying on the dead and spitting on the alive. His tattoos are hidden like how mute the good are. The sun is rising but it’s still dark, bats flying in the atmosphere, eating the skulls of the corpses. She doesn’t feel safe. She feels evil because everything else is also evil. But definitely not safe.

She wants to slice those armchairs, chopping off their stands and kicking them out into the red and orange of the fire. She wants to turn into a psychopath, or even more of one if she already is. She feels the pain of people but they’re all FAKE. Curious but not concerned are the talking people, nothing else to do and nothing good to say. Let them turn to dust again; they never deserved to have flesh. Stupid, robotic movements. Stupid, robotic reflexes. Leave her alone, leave her alone, leave her alone to live for once.

    She’s not bad. She’s unloved.

    Driven Madness

Reality likes to sink in very often – so often that I end up spinning like some queen instead of drowning. If Reality’s no. 1 habit is appearing with and like a bang, then Fantasy’s is pulling dreamers into their favorite (or at least one of them) pastimes: Daydreaming.
Hate knocks on the walls around here. This always makes me do something. Perhaps drawing lines on my skin could be the anti-pain version of actual cutting. It’s for cowards – people like me who are not brave enough to even get something pointy and sharp. I like movie-gore on the screens, big and small, but blood on myself by point-sharp-thing already freaks me out just by thinking about it.
Unreachable & Unreal people/things make me happy.
People who KNOW me – big word – know I love some stuff. Books, Owl City, Adventure Time. Not all music can heal – not all make sense. The music-magic gives me the familiarity of home. Some home so far, far away. Faces like Adam Young’s make me happy.

    Also his smile feels warm.

    Alone time makes me happy.
    And so does understanding.

I want to create something worth people’s time.

I want to feel literature everywhere. I want to bite on it like the most attractive cherry pie ever, then chew chew chew – taste the beauty of the words I know. Bitter but sweet. To create. To feel words creeping up to me from an image. Feel. Emotion. Know them under my skin. Acknowledge the birth of thoughts and realization. Move your tongue to the hurricane of words. Kiss the inked lines across my hands. My arms. My fingers. Block out their hysteria and breathe in my own.

    I am hungry.
And I hate, and I love.
